About us

SOMA Figure Drawing is an established art event in Maplewood, NJ. It started in 2021, based on community interest.

We typically hold drawing sessions ~twice a month. Each session is 2hr, usually 7:45-9:45pm (based on group’s preferences). We hire a professional model to pose, usually nude. Attendees bring their own art supplies.

Organizers book the rental space, source & hire the models, and ensure that the sessions run smoothly.

About the organizers

Thea Kluge has lived in Maplewood since 2013 and has been active in community arts and family events. She’s an artist and has worked in design & tech for 20+ years, many of those years at Google.

Ken Stanek, your friendly neighborhood watercolor documentarian, paints pet portraits, people portraits, pop up portraits, and building portraits.

You may catch him making sketchbook paintings of cafés, coffeeshops, restaurants, flower shops, and so on and so forth.

Thank you also to Nicolas Guillen for organizing events and building the community!
